Homeopathy

Homeopathic medicine is a therapeutic system that appears to work by stimulating the body’s auto-regulatory mechanisms by using microdoses of toxins. The principal was first explored as early as 450 BC, but was rationalised into a clinical system by German Physician, Samuel Hahnemann in the late 18th Century. There are now an estimated 100,000 physicians practicing worldwide and over 12,000 medical doctors and licensed health care providers administering homeopathy.

Homeopathic medicines are prescribed to fit each individuals needs, are given in much smaller doses than conventional medications, hence avoiding the sometimes toxic side effects of pharmaceutical drugs.

The most important basic difference between conventional medicine and homeopathic is that in conventional medicine, the aim is often to control the illness through regular use of medicines. But often, if the medication is withdrawn, however, the person returns to illness. Homeopaths aim to stimulate the body’s own healing ability, and to correct the disturbance that is causing the symptoms.

There is evidence that homeopathy is effective in the treatment of many recurrent conditions such as:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Colds and flus
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Hay fever
  • Immune function
  • Insomnia
  • Lower back pain
  • Premenstrual syndrome
  • Psoriasis
  • Rheumatic diseases
  • Sinusitis
  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • A range of other chronic conditions

Homeopaths also treat a substantial number of patients with ill-defined illness that have not been given a conventional diagnosis.
